On top of the Maqqatam Hills, the mountain range that looks down on Cairo, is an amazing church built right into the rock. The church is an architectural wonder, made even more impressive by the fact that it is located at the outskirts of Garbage City, the neighborhood where about 5,000 people, about 95% of whom are Christian, literally live among the garbage. To see such an impressive building in such a pitiful neighborhood is remarkable.

Literally carved into the side of a mountain, the church is designed like an amphitheater. with the altar as the stage.

The church has the capacity to seat 2,000.

The cross above the altar.

Amazing.
